2019 TORONTO CHRISTMAS MARKET TRAFFIC AND PARKING MANAGEMENT PLAN

The Toronto Christmas Market (TCM), in consultation with key stakeholders and its transportation consultant,
has developed a Traffic and Parking Management Plan to help manage traffic and parking during the 2019
Toronto Christmas Market (Thursday November 14 to Sunday December 22, 2019).

The plan has been developed in consultation with the City of Toronto, the TTC, 51 Division Police, 51 & 52
Division Parking Enforcement, Distillery District residents and the offices of Councillor Cressy (Ward 10) and
Councillor Wong-Tam (Ward 13).

The plan emphasises four key components:

  1. Enhanced Transit;
  2. Formal Passenger Drop-off Zone;
  3. Designated Event Parking Areas; and
  4. Restricted Traffic and Parking Zones.

Please note: Peak periods are defined as Fridays 5pm-10pm, Saturdays 12pm-10pm and Sundays 12pm-9pm.

CHANGES TO TRAFFIC/ROADS

 

Mill Street

Duration of Market – Mill Street will be converted from two-way operation to one-way westbound only from Cherry Street to Parliament Street.

  • During peak periods – traffic will be restricted to:
    • TTC buses
    • tour buses
    • resident parking for 33 Mill Street who will have identifying dashboard insert
    • permit parking that will have been notified of their new location of 33 Mill Street and will have an identifying dashboard insert
    • TCM vendors and staff that will have an identifying dashboard insert
    • taxi drop-offs
    • ride sharing vehicles that are dropping off residents only (police may ask for identification or your TCM resident pass)
    • delivery vehicles with a delivery receipt for a residence within 33 Mill Street, 70 Mill Street and 80 Mill Street.
    • vehicles with accessible parking tags
    • emergency vehicles
  • These changes should result in significantly less traffic on Mill Street.

 

Trinity Street

Duration of Market – Trinity Street will remain one-way southbound.

  • During peak periods – traffic will be restricted to:
    • taxi cabs
    • resident parking for 33, 70 and 80 Mill Street who will have identifying dashboard insert
    • permit parking that will have been notified of their new location of 33 Mill Street and will have an identifying dashboard insert
    • TCM vendors and staff that will have an identifying dashboard insert
    • ride sharing vehicles that are dropping off residents only (police may ask for identification or your TCM resident pass)
    • delivery vehicles with a delivery receipt for a residence within 33 Mill Street, 70 Mill Street and 80 Mill Street.
    • vehicles with accessible parking tags
    • emergency vehicles.
  • Please note tour buses will be asked to enter on Mill Street

 

Front Street

Duration of Market – Front Street East will be converted from two-way operation to one-way eastbound only from Trinity Street to Cherry Street.

 

CHANGES TO TTC

Visitors are strongly encouraged to take transit. The TTC will be providing increased transit service to/from the Market during peak Market periods:

  • King Street (504A King Streetcar) between Spadina Avenue and Cherry Street, including at St. Andrew Station and King Station;
  • Parliament Street (65 Parliament Bus) between Castle Frank Station and the Market; and
  • From Union Station – 121 Fort York-Esplanade Bus.

CHANGES TO PARKING

  • On-Street Parking RestrictionsOn street parking will be removed from:
    • Parliament Street between King Street East and Lake Shore Boulevard East
    • Mill Street between Parliament Street and Cherry Street
    • Front Street East between Trinity Street and Cherry Street
  • Designated Event Parking AreasThe main event parking lots will be:
    • Green P parking lot located just south of Front Street, between Trinity and Cherry, with entrance south from Front Street
    • 333 Lake Shore Boulevard East, at Parliament Street / Lake Shore Boulevard East

 

RIDE-SHARING LOCATION

Ride-sharing vehicles can pick-up / drop-off passengers at the formal passenger pick-up / drop-off area on Front Street East between Trinity Street and Cherry Street, and at a designated passenger pick-up / drop-off area on the south side of Mill Street east of Cherry Street.

 

TOUR BUS LOCATION

The designated tour bus temporary loading / unloading area during the TCM will be on Mill Street on the west side of Trinity Street. Tour buses should enter on Mill Street (not Trinity Street).

 

PASSENGER DROP-OFF LOCATION

The formal pick-up / drop-off area for the TCM will be on the south side of Front Street East, between Trinity Street and Cherry Street. This section of Front Street East will operate one-way eastbound only.

 

TAXI STANDS 

The commercial taxi stand will remain in its current location on the west side of Trinity Street south of Front Street East. The taxi stand will be extended to accommodate more taxis.
